A major component to the Tides of Change Economic Development Strategy is the redevelopment of the Harbour, which identified the need for additional marina space, a fuel dock and other components, such as an ice plant, as priorities.
In 2015, studies commenced to assess the conditions of the waterfront assets (Netloft, boardwalk, etc.), a Geotechnical Assessment of existing site and foundation conditions, and Wave Conditions. These reports can be found on the Village of Alert Bay’s website.
Business case studies were also conducted for Cormorant Island Marine Fuel and an Ice Plant. The last two business case studies are now being finalized based on community feedback during a consultant visit, which took place January 9 & 10, 2018.
The consultants toured Alert Bay in early January to begin community consultations. Fishermen, Business owners and other Alert Bay organizations were invited to have initial discussions around the future of the harbour. The consultant’s notes can be found here.
In June, an Open House was held that showcased Waterfront Plan Stage 2 – July 10 2018 for the harbour front. We would like to invite you to provide comments and feedback through a questionnaire that is available at the Village Office or at the ‘Namgis Band Office.
